Digital birth certificate
In NSW around 500,000 applications for Birth Certificates occur annually, with only 60% being for new births. For citizens, whenever they need a birth certificate they often need to reapply because its been lost.
There's the time it takes to receive, and often times it's too late. In emergency situations there's a lack of support. Without a Birth Certificate you can't enrol in school or apply for a licence.
This is a ~$10m a year problem.

Product Design
Experienced across end to end design across a broad range of industries and domains. I've worked across a range of projects from internal tooling and platforms to consumer apps and government web applications.
Product Management
Previously led cross-functional teams at various stages of the lifecycle. Past work includes the Australian Death Notification Service and the Digital Birth Certificate.
Research & Data
Expertise across a broad range of research methodologies. Deep experience in both virtual and in-person research. Passionate about scoping and delivering high ROI approaches.

Initially joining the National Product team within the NSW Government, I was tasked with leading the discovery on the digitalisation of the traditional Birth Certificate. While typically state based, the product scope was for a nationally endorsed product, for all states and territories to adopt. The project ran for ~18 months, with my tenure concluding with an alpha release that demonstrated the viability and feasibility of the product.

The Digital Birth Certificate came from a set of known problems, with a known solution.
- Throughout 2021 the team and I engaged with hundreds of Australians to better understand the pains, challenges and behaviours which were impacting the current state experience of paper certificates. This engagement provided significant insight to develop a set of guiding principles from which to build the yet-unknown Digital Birth Certificate solution.
- Consistent with human design centred principles, we delivered vertical slices of capability following a test -> learn -> build cycle with ongoing iteration and research being conducted with all user types including members of the public, organisations, and verification providers.

$10m year on year savingsfor citizens through a reduction in certificate sales, and operational efficiencies.- Conforming to international standards ensured the interoperability with future digital identify and verifiable credential work within Service NSW and the Australian Government.
- The product supports consuming agencies to reduce their collection and storage of personal identification information.
- The implementation of the sharable document enabled citizens to
keep it in the location they chose(i.e. Apple wallet or Service NSW app). - The product met WCAG 2.0 AA+ standards, verified by an independent agency.
- The product was built for states and territories who didn’t have their own application.
- Nominated for a Premiers Award for Excellence in Innovation
